How do we tell what size unit you need? There are specific formulas for load calculation derived from a guide known in the trade as Manual J. It factors in such things as which side of your house gets the most heat and light, the number and size of windows, the type of roof you have, your insulation, ceiling height and square footage. Based on that, we will know what SEER air conditioner you need.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is a measurement somewhat like R-value in insulation or miles-per-gallon in a car. A 14 SEER unit uses energy about 14 percent more efficiently than an old 10 SEER unit. And the savings can range from 40 to 60 percent a month!

What Size Do You Need?

Just because 14 SEER is good, it does not mean 18 SEER is better. A machine that is too large will cool off your house more quickly but it won’t necessarily remove humidity – which is one of your AC’s most important jobs. An oversized system will cycle on and off more rapidly and eventually shorten the life of the motor. And you will pay a higher price for a higher-powered machine – not a good investment! Refrigerant Changes
